This is an exquisite A.Lamm footed cup and saucer set with extensive detail on a pastel yellow lustre ground. The cup's focal point is a roundel with a meticulously detailed, sensitive portrait of a rosy cheeked young boy. He has a sweet face, long curly hair and fancy clothing. The portrait is encircled by a gilded band embellished with raised beading. Surrounding the roundel is a symmetrical spread of hand-painted gilt cornucopia profuse with floral work and leafy tendrils, enhanced by raised gilt texture. The lower half of the cup is decorated with a lotus petal motif in the Art Nouveau style, accented by stylized fleur de lis, all of which feature more raised gilt texture. Encircling the base of the foot is hand-painted gilding in a striking arabesque design. The cup handle is solidly gilt and is accented by additional floral-type scroll work on the cup. The rim has a wide gold band with a smaller scalloped gold band just below. A classic Lamm gold flower decorates the center of the cup well.

The saucer features the same yellow lustre ground color and gilt lotus motif decoration. The rim has a thick gold band followed by an additional narrow stripe. There is raised gilt detailing and beading throughout, and at the very center is another gold Lamm flower.

Both cup and saucer bear A. Lamm mark. Over the mark on the cup is "400 K." and there is finely painted German script "Kind Vogel Dresden Galerie" and refers to the portrait, which is based off of the work of Christian Leberecht Vogel,a respected Dresden artist.

Excellent condition. All gilt beading is present, virtually no gilt wear, no chips, hairlines or repairs. There is a tiny dark speck inside the cup under the glaze and original to firing. Saucer has darker dots on gilt, natural to age.

Germany, Late 19th century.
