Dresden Game Cabinet Plate Fox Fowl Gilt

Dresden Game Cabinet Plate Fox Fowl Gilt

Product# RA-382

A game themed hand painted dinner plate from Dresden, Germany. The well is handsomely painted showing a hunt scene with a fox catching a fowl in the snow. A delicate mountainous landscape recedes behind them. A small signature "P.V." can be seen at the lower right. Heavy gilding and gilt paste decorates the lip. A pair of gilt birds perch flanking large flowers at the top and bottom and and horned instruments anchor the sides. Between these are swags and garlands, flowers and fields of cross hatching accented with large and small raised dots. The rim is solidly gilt, embellished with tiny gilt paste beading. The base is marked with a blue shield shape containing "Saxony Germany" 261. At the base there is a rim chip, shown in last two photos. There is no resulting crack or repair.
