This rare sculpture in the round features the goddess being attended by maidens and cherubs. From the base up, every living creature is in mid-action, creating visual movement that draws the eye upwards toward the pinnacle: beautiful Venus on her chariot with her robe billowing out in an arch behind her. The figures are done very naturalistically with soft features and delicate details. There are sweet cherubim and two graceful swans. The piece is profuse with flowers, from the rose garlands to the individual petals on the mums and morning glories. Parian is a type of bisque porcelain with a fine texture and brilliant whiteness. It is left bare, with no glaze, which creates a sensuous finish.

Great condition, imperfections natural to its age -few fire cracks with no affect on structure, a couple small areas of discoloration, one little cherub is missing a foot. Please see pictures for details.

Unmarked, ca 1870
